First, let's look at the definitions of literary realism and naturalism. Literary realism is the act of portraying everyday and mundane, or normal, experiences without any frills or extra drama. Naturalism is a form of extreme realism where the result is more pessimistic and "gritty", in a way. Look at the way the author of this poem perceives war and humanity through their words, and it will help you to decide which, if either, of these descriptions fits. Use specific words or phrases in the work as examples of the viewpoint you believe it has.
The theme of the work is the overarching message or "lesson." What is the poem trying to say, or teach?
