Realism is a specific literary movement that shows the truth of life, so to speak. It doesn't embellish or add extra fancy details, or romanticize events, instead showing them as they are. Find some examples of straightforward descriptions or scenes that feel very real, and then explain why these scenes draw you into the story and make you feel like you are really there. Think about how the story might have hit you differently if it had been described in a different way. Would it have been as effective, or perhaps more effective? Think about why the author might have chosen realism as a style.
