It's difficult to know exactly what the teacher is referencing here because I see two possible ideas. The first one is that, when choosing a sport, a person might want to consider the environment that the sport takes place in. Is it played inside or outside? Is it played in cold weather or in warm weather. Some people enjoy cold weather and enjoy such sports as skiing and ice skating. Some enjoy being outdoors in hot weather; others prefer a controlled indoor environment.
The other idea would be the consideration of any environmental impact that a sport might have. Downhill skiing requires cutting down trees to make ski slopes and large parking lots. People travel to get there which uses gasoline, thereby polluting the environment. Car racing requires a track and uses gasoline for cars. Tires burn up quickly and must be changed, contributing to waste.
I would lean toward the first idea because the question involves the choice of a sport.
