Hi Mike,
Typically, thesis statements focus primarily on one topic. But, if you are able to find a way to correlate more than one topic into your thesis statement, then feel free to do so. As long as the two or more topics within your thesis statement are parallel in their contextual outlook and implications, in complete tandem with what your paper is about on the whole, then you will be good to go. Just FYI: the "other topic" in a thesis statement can also be considered a subtopic--which is often used to expand the main topic of discussion into further areas of thought. :)
