Hey there Ke'Myra!
Although what a hero looks like changes between time periods and cultures, it's something we are all familiar with and an archetype most people either admire or identify with. A modern hero could be a superhero, or it could be a mother protecting her children from danger. So think about who or what may be heroic to you, then think about why they're heroic.
Whether their quest is fantastical or more down to earth, if readers identify with the hero, then the journey is an effective and powerful way to tell a story. Being able to empathize with the character, real or fictional, leads to a sense of satisfaction when the hero comes out on top. Conversely it creates great emotion when the hero may fail or run into trouble.
Whether we admit to it or not, everyone identifies with some heroic figure. When a hero's story has clear ideals that are positive and constructive, that can lead to the reader gaining encouragement or inspiration. It can also be a way to teach the reader a lesson or moral through the expression of the hero's ideals. If a story is widespread and impactful to a group of people, big or small, then the ideals expressed in the story will likely influence the thoughts or actions of that group of people who have read the story.
I hope this helps!
