You need to paint a picture for your reader with imagery and descriptions. What kind of party? What made it fun? Was does a fun party look/smell/hear like?

For example:

The cat chased the squirrel. (No picture for the reader.)

Better:

Despite knowing it would fight back if caught, the black and white cat chased the squirrel up the largest tree in the yard, only to watch as it jumped from a high branch and across the fence to another yard. (The reader can close his eyes and picture this.)
