I didn't understand if your question was, Why do you have to study English? or Why should you study Englsh? So I can't answer your exact question, but I can tell you why I teach English.
I teach English Language Arts because I love it. Language tells so much more than the meaning of the words on the page. Language tells you about a time and a culture. Learning English Language Arts marks you as a citizen of this time and culture. How you choose to use your language tells me about you as a person. More practically, language is our primary source of information. We talk. We write. We make Youtube videos. To successfully navigate the world at large, you need to have a strong sense of language. This includes vocabulary, composition, comprehension, and that dreaded, evil monster, spelling. I want to send my students into the world armed with what they need to, not only, survive, but to thrive. Learning language arts doesn't just give you skills in language arts, but also in communication, critical thinking, and logic. Most importantly, though, it gives you the opportunity to learn how to learn, how to teach yourself.
I teach English as a Second language because English in now the lingua franca. More than 20% of the world speaks English. English is the language of science, medicine, and business. All over the Middle East, Asia, and Europe, schools teach English alongside maths and history and their own language arts. In almost any field, if you want to be at the top of it, you need to speak English. Knowing how to speak English will always be better than not knowing it, even if you never use it.
I hope this is helpful to you. Good luck.
