Maybe this will help.
y = -2^x
= -1(2^x).
2^x is exponential growth with base of 2.
So it is a rapid positive or upwards growth For increasing positive values of x
,
BUT
multiplication by a factor of -1 reverses the direction of the growth.
Thus making y= -2^x have rapid downward growth for increasing positive values of x.
