Should I take the ACT or the SAT?

I have been asked this question so many times, and I have worked with hundreds of students for both tests. I can help you figure out which test is best for you. I can explain what I have learned as I have traversed both the ACT and SAT with my students.

Since ACT has been becoming more popular in the last decade, SAT has been trying to copy ACT more. The tests are becoming more and more alike. SAT is even trying to hire away the ACT question writers. If you prepared for one, you should take both just to pick the one where you're at higher percentile. ACT has science, an additional topic. However, it is more reading comprehension and logic. You don't necessarily have to take all the science classes to do well in it.

Most students should take both tests. If there is an imbalance between math and verbal skills, then one might be better. For those students who are stronger in math, SAT is better; for those with stronger verbal skills, ACT is better
