While both share some similarities--particularly in their attention to issues of surface correctness (such as grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc.)--editing might be a slightly more expansive term depending on your situation. If your teacher has referenced "macro/micro," "HOCs/LOCs," or "global/local," then editing might include elements from both, covering the focus of proofreading on local/micro/LOC issues of correctness, but also sharing the focus of revision, where you attend to global/macro/HOC concerns of overall arrangement, consistency, achievement of rhetorical aims, etc.
