Rachel,
In the first paragraph there is one repetitive sentence having to do with the cost of higher education and there is one sentence that has nothing to do with higher cost. In the second paragraph the focus is on applying comma rules. Anything that does not directly relate to that should be discarded. In the third paragraph the focus is on writing a resume. Anything that does not directly relate to this should be discarded. The best way to identify pertinent information and discard the rest is to make a list. For example, in the third paragraph I would make this list.
Guidelines for a resume
- Should be one page long
- Must include a clearly defined job objective
- Wording should be brief; use phrases more than sentences
- Don't include references
- Include previous salaries
- Neatness and appearance are important
- An effective resume will result from these principles (I would rewrite and expand upon this for the summary/conclusion)
- Your additional supporting idea
- Your additional supporting idea
Now rewrite the paragraph...There are several guidelines to writing an effective resume. List each. Discuss each. Summarize.
