From this model, the red and gray wolf would be more closely related to dogs than to coyotes.
Think of it like a road and you are travelling from left to right: find the intersection that they have in common where if you go one way you can get to the wolf and if you go the other way you can get to the dog. This is the crossroads right near the artificial selection symbol. The crossroads point is a common ancestor. Then do the same thing with the wolf and coyote to find the intersection for the wolf and the coyote. This spot is the first crossroads all the way on the left. The wolf&dog intersection is farther along the path than the wolf&coyote intersection. Therefore, the wolf is more closely related to the dog than the coyote.
