which units would you use to measure the area of a rectangle with / = 1 m and w = 34 cm? explain.

Area of a rectangle is length times width, but you need to have the same units for both measurements.  You have two choices here.  Convert the meters to cms, or convert the cms to meters.  BOTH are correct!

 

1. 1 m = 100 cm, so the area would be (100cm)*(34cm)=3,400cm² (that is square centimeters)
2. 34 cm = .34 m, so the area would be (1m)x(0.34m)=.34m²

 

Both answers would be correct and equivalent
