Counterfeit money refers to coins or bills which are manufactured not by the official mint of a country but by counterfeiters. It may look real, but because it is not genuine, if idenified as 'fake", it has no intrinsic value. The act of counterfeiting money is also a crime in most countries.
Examples of reactions:
- The babysitter who is paid in cash instead of by check: "Great, now I can go buy new jeans!"
- The babysitter when the store holds her $50 bill up under an ultraviolet light and tells her it is fake: "Are you sure? They seem like such nice people. How will I pay now?"
- .The counterfeiter, upon receiving the fake $50 bills from the printer who made them: "Wow, these look great! We're rich!"
