To compare fractions first make common denominators, so that we can compare the numerators.
To make the denominators same, we have to take L.C.M (least common multiple) of the denominators.
L.C.M of 2,3,4 is:
= 2 * 3 * 2
= 12
To convert denominator into 12, multiply numerator and denominator by :
0 * something is always 0
(1*6) / (2*6) { To convert the denominator to 12 multiply with 6, do the same with numerator }
6 / 12
(1*4) / (3*4) { To convert the denominator to 12 multiply with 4, do the same with numerator }
4 / 12
(1*3) / (4*3) { To convert the denominator to 12 multiply with 3, do the same with numerator }
3 / 12
Now compare 0, 6 / 12 , 4 / 12 , 3 / 12
So, the order is 0 < 3/12 < 4/12 < 6/12
Hence, 6/12 which is 1/2 is farthest from the number line.
