Parallel lines have the same slope. THe equation given in y=mx+b form tells me my slope or M is 1/2. This is the slope you will be using in your new equation.
This problem requires the point slope formula:
(y-y1)=m(x-x1), we already have M=1/2 and we are given (x1, y1) from the coordinate point given in the problem (2,6)
Plug in:
(y-y1)=m(x-x1)
(y-6)=1/2(x-2), distribute the 1/2
y-6=1/2x-1, add the 6 to bot sides
y=1/2x+5, done
