Oh boy what a question. It is so important that generations learn the facts behind questions like these. Let me challenge you, Joy! So the war, even the title is based on who you ask. So if you are an American it is the Mexican-American War. However, if you ask someone in Mexico it is called the U.S. Invasion. The Mexicans viewpoint is around the problem of the annexation of Texas. This was unacceptable because it did kind of violate a boarder treaty. Mexico had sovereignty over that territory. Now the Americans at this time where going through the Manifest Destiny. We were growing really quickly and we needed to expand to hold the growing population. We had also suffered some economic hardships so people were seeking to settle down in frontier land because it was basically free. Finally there is nothing like relocation back then to have a shot and increasing your economic success. So the three reasons pretty much tells us it was about America. They wanted expansion. The Mexican American war was HONESTLY purely driven by economical, social and political pressures to expand our borders.

Great answer I would also add some of the history of Texas as well. when owned by first Spain and then Mexico US citizens were invited in to settle Texas. Granted with that came complications leading up to and including war. Texas evolution to statehood was very complicated. At one point it was its own republic at least according to Texas not to Mexico. Texas was also the first state that was acquired through annexation not treaty or purchase. if you would like to discuss further please let me know03/25/20
