How was the braille system for blind individuals invented?

Louis Braille invented braille while he was at one of the first blind schools in Paris France. He got the idea from a captain in the French Army who had tried to come up with a way for his men to communicate at night. It was a series of dots and dashes poked into paper. Louis took this idea and by the age of 15 had already came up with a six cell structure that would fit under the fingertip and had come up with over 60 different ways to use those six dots.

This is a great question. Working with a partially blind student we had to learn how to read the braille and with hands on learning, it is very interesting. Braille was invented by Louis Braille. However it was Frank Hall who invented the Braille Typewriter. Each key had the braille dots so blind could type just like the vision.
