To solve any problem like this, it can be helpful to write the trig function in terms of the sides of a right triangle: hypotenuse (H)
opposite (O)
adjacent (A)
sin(x) = O/H
cos(x) = A/H
therefore sin/cos = (O/H) / (A/H) = O/A = tan
