This is a big question! Before developing a thesis for this essay, I'd urge you to consider which theoretical frameworks you are working with. Do you have a reading list accompanying this assignment, or are you in a chapter of your coursework focusing on a specific philosophy? Are you drawing from psychological studies, or are you conducting your own research? I ask this, because the sources you refer to in this argument will be crucial for developing a strong, cohesive and compelling argument.
Once you understand the framework you would like to use for your argument, then you can develop your thesis more clearly. From there, I would recommend re-reading key passages and noting which segments of the text you would like to quote or refer to - these can be anchors for your essay, and will keep you on track. Writing an outline is very helpful at this stage, too, as you can craft a clean and convincing argument through several paragraphs (or more, depending on the length of the essay).
