In math, we can change ratios to fractions to make them easier to work with. The denominator of our fraction is the two numbers of the ratio added together. So our denominator is 5 + 3 = 8.
Now since our ratio is adults to children and our numerical ratio is 5 to 3, we know that the 5 corresponds with the number of adults. This means that 5/8 of the total number of attendees are adults. We can now multiply 144 times 5/8 to find the total number of adults:
144 * 5/8 = 90
There were 90 adults in the audience. If you have any questions don't hesitate to reach out!
