Maths question problem

I want to know how to solve this the proper way, not by trial and error :)

In a town, 10% of the dogs think they are cats and 10% of the cats think that they are dogs. All the other cats + dogs are normal. When all the animals were asked what they were, 20%THOUGHT they were cats.

What percentage of them in the town are REALLY cats

I put dog as X and cat as Y Town = X + Y 20% of (x+Y) = the animals that thinks they are cats 20% (x+y) = 10% x + 90% y so that means 20% x + 20% y = 10% x + 90% y which equals to (20%x + 20%y) - 10%x = 90%y so 10%x + 20%y = 90%y 90-20 = 70 so 10%x = 70%y so there are 7 dog per 1 cats so the answer is 12.5% of cats?
