How long was the Little Prince on Earth?

In _The Little Prince_, the titular little prince lands on Earth. How long was he there? If I recall correctly, the prince left on the 8th day of the pilot being lost in the desert. I don't know if the prince landed the same time the pilot crashed. Did he? How long was the prince on Earth?

The Little Prince leaves his home asteroid and spends an indefinite time going to other asteroids and meeting folks (the fool, the king, etc.) and then arrives on Earth long before encountering the Pilot in the desert. During the few days that the pilot needs to fix his plane, the Prince recounts the story of his travels - arriving in the desert, visiting the garden of roses, taming the fox (which by itself took at least four or five days), and eventually wandering back into the desert to the exact spot where he first arrived.

In short, there is no easy answer to how long the Little Prince was actually on Earth as the entire book only describes his time with the Pilot.
