2/5 = x/15 solve for x, and then put that over 15
the ratios have to be equal. There are 3 1/15's in 1/5. 1/3 of 1/5 is 1/15.
x=3x2 =6 you worked 6/15 of an hour.
x/15 = 2/5 solve for x. 15 is 3 times 5, so x is 3 times 2. Multiply 5 by 3 to get 15, so you need to multiply 2 by 3 to get x=6.
Or you could just cross multiply the fractions: 5x =2(15) = 30 numerator of 1st fraction times denominator of 2nd fraction = numerator of the 2nd fraction times denominator of 1st fraction
5x=30 so x =30/5=6 divide by 5
Or think of 2/5 of an hour as 40% of an hour. 2 is 40% of 5 .40 times 5 = 2
so you need 40% of 15. .40 times 15 = 6.
Or think of 2/5 of an hour as 40% or 4/10 of 60 minutes = 24 minutes .4 times 60 = 24
x/15 times 60 minutes must also equal 24 minutes
(x/15)(60)=24
60x/15=24
4x=24
x=6
so x/15=6/15 of an hour
