For a science fair project, this project is too complex and would involve sophisticated and expensive scientific equipment to grow and isolate the bacteria. Since you are a Sophomore, I would encourage you to continue exploring this field. I don't know where you live but maybe you could shadow a scientist at an university that is working on a similar project.
As for ideas for science project, there are other ways to incorporate the idea of microbial remediation. I don't know your exact interests so I will leave a few resources in the comments section for you to view and decide for yourself.
