The two stages of photosynthesis are the light-independent and light-dependent stages.
In the light-dependent (LD) stage light is required (it depends on light, its right in the name!). Light is used to break water into the byproduct O2 and energetic molcules that are needed for the light-independent stage (the molecules are ATP and NADPH. The LD stage occurs in the thylakoids.
In the Light-independent (LI) stage the cell uses CO2 and products from the previous stage to create molecules of glucose, C6H12O6. The LI stage occurs in the Stroma of the cell.
