Symmetry of species?

I've got a silly question, sorry for that. I know, that we probably have no the right answer and the current answer could be "that's evolution, external conditions". I'd like to speculate, why most of mammals (for ex.) and people especially are symmetric? I know, that we are not completely symmetrical, but anyway. Thanks a lot.

I don't know the answer to this question. I'm not a biologist. But, I just wanted to give you high compliments for your curiosity and thought processes. BRAVO! This is an intriguing question and it is simplistic and yet deeply profound. I am curious to know the answer. Moreover, I have had another biological question I have occasionally pondered. Single celled organisms, specifically have ruled the earth. For about 3.3 billion years they were the sole life on earth until the Cambrian came along at about 543 million years ago. Why did sex (male & female) development??? It seems like single cell reproduction was far more effective.
