Student of Greek from Childhood
The ancient Greeks conquered the Persian Empire under Alexander the Great. Greek culture dominated until its defeat by Rome, and even then survived in the common language and arts of the Roman Empire. The Romans even adopted all the Greek gods, though they did rename them. I once read that the Dorian Greeks, who ushered in the classical period, actually migrated in from Poland, which would be very interesting if true. (A credible story, when one considers how small Europe is.)

Pardon me, I think it was the Attica Greeks who came from eastern Europe.04/15/19
