In the book Restart by Gordon Korman, Shoshanna is a witty supporting character who starts out with a strong hatred for the protagonist, Chase. In Chapter 13 of the novel, Shoshanna visits the Portland Street Retirement home where she intends on interviewing an elderly war hero for a video club project - a topic suggested to her by Chase. As she reluctantly enters Mr. Solway's room, he is entirely unpleasant with her, implying that he wants nothing to do with the project. Shoshanna initially sees him as an "old creep" who is "just plain mean." However, once Chase enters the room a moment later, Shoshanna notices a dramatic change in Mr. Solway's demeanor. She narrates this, stating that "his crabby glower morphs into a grin that lights up the room (Korman, 106)." Shoshanna realizes that Mr. Solway is pleased to see Chase, and Chase tells Mr. Solway that he and Shoshanna would like to conduct the interview together, as friends. Mr. Solway says he'd be "happy to help the two of them out." Shoshanna is not happy about the fact that Mr. Solway likes Chase, because she, herself, hates him. One of Shoshanna's most defining character traits is that she hates being proven wrong. However, since the video project is so important to her, her determination prevails and she decides to stick around for the interview, anyway.
