Homologous chromosomes are chromosome pairs in which one was inherited from the egg and one from the sperm. That's why are cells are referred to as "diploid" - they have two copies of each chromosome. Human gametes (egg and sperm) do not have homologous chromosomes because they exist in haploid form (they only have one copy of chromosomes).
