Empezar and comenzar have very similar meanings and in many cases, you can use either verb without changing the meaning of the sentence.
Difference between "empezar" and "comenzar"?
What is the difference between `empezar` and `comenzar`? Is one more formal than the other?

I think they’re pretty interchangeable. Consider ‘start’, ‘begin’, and ‘commence’ in English. It’s kinda the same thing.
