Fong's family bought a large sack of rice. They consumed 7/20 last month and 8/11 of the remainder this month. What fraction of rice remains/ has been consumed?

7/20 was eaten last month, so 13/20 remains.  Of the 13/80 that remains, 8/11 of it was consumed this month.

 

 

Let x the amount of rice that remains.

 

 

Amount eaten last month + amount eaten this month + remaining rice = 1 sack

 

7/20 + (13/20)(8/11) + x = 1

 

x = 39/220
