Tommie, nucleic acids are polymers whose building blocks are nucleotides. Nucleotides have 3 parts - a sugar, phosphate group, and a nitrogen containing base.
The sugar in DNA is deoxyribose and the sugar in RNA is ribose. Thus DNA is deoxyribonucleic acid and RNA is ribonucleic acid.
