To Scout in To Kill a Mockingbird, Dill's background is not as relevant to the story as his humanity. Dill's background may have been odd or unusual to Scout, so instead of focusing on where he came from, Scout focuses on the things he has done. Dill's background may be different, but the deeds he has done since he and Scout have been introduced prove that it does not matter what his background is; what matters are the good things he has done.
