The owners of a candy store want to sell, for $6 per pound, a mixture of chocolate-covered raisins, which usually sells for $3 per pound, and chocolate-covered macadamia nuts, which usually sells for $8 per pound. They have a 70-pound barrel of the raisins. How many pounds of the nuts should they mix with the barrel of raisins so that they hit their target value of $6 per pound for the mixture?

X is the number of pounds of nuts.

3*70 + 8*x = 6*(x+70)

210 + 8x = 6x + 420

210 + 2x = 420

2x = 210

x = 105

105 lb of nuts * $8 per pound = $840

70 lb of raisins * $3 per pound = $210

total is $1050, which divided by 175 lb = $6 per pound
