As Matt indicated, "activate" is a verb. The basic form of the verb is called the infinitive, and it is often shown as "to activate." The three parts of the verb that a learner needs to know for every verb are: the infinitive, the simple past, and the past participle. In this case: (to) activate, activated, activated. An example from an irregular verb, "to sing," is: (to) sing, sang, sung.
I hope this helps everyone.
