The first one is correct. You never end a sentence with a prepositional phrase. A prepositional phrase shows place. In this case, “on the door step.” The way I teach my students how to remember what a preposition is is that it is “anywhere a cat can go.” Some examples would be: over, under, above, around, in, on, etc. Hope this was helpful :)
