King Henry VIII (eighth), who was Queen Elizabeth I father, was a prime example of what happens when someone in power is allowed to change laws and the lives of his subjects on a whim. He wanted to get out of his first marriage but he was Catholic at that time so he succeeded his whole country from the Catholic Church to start the Anglican Church so he could divorce and then marry Elizabeth's mother. So all citizens had to change their religion because he wanted this. Later on, the daughter from his first marriage and Elizabeth were in a struggle for power and one was Catholic and the other was Anglican and again citizens were forced to change their religion based on who was in power. So research this(Another good example is the French Revolution, but the example I gave happened before the time of the Patriots with the government of their own ancestors) a little if you think it will help you understand why a stable government is so important.
