Let x = the number of technicians

Let y = the number of packers

x + y = 540       y = 540 - x

24x + 20y = 12,000

24x + 20(540 - x) = 12,000

24x + 10,800 - 20x = 12,000

4x = 1200

x = 300

y = 540 - 300 

y = 240
