Graphing Awkward decimals with Table of Values.

Question

Hi! Looking for some help on how to graph a y=mx + b equation when the b is a decimal always.

 

The equation is 3y + 5 = 9x

 

I've converted it to the y= mx + b equation: y = 9x -5

                                                                       -------

                                                                           3

 

but when i get to filling out the table of values for the graph, all the combinations i come up with end up with an awkward decimal. Just wondering if this is the only way to come about this answer?

3y + 5 = 9x

 

the best way to graph a st. line is usually by finding both its x and y intercepts:

(0, -5/3)   and   (5/9)

 

x intercept is negative 1 and two thirds, i.e. about-1.67

y intercept is about 0.56, using rounded to 2 decimal places.

 

Sometimes answers are not integers--that's life.
