Power, or the struggle between a new power and an old power, is one of the major themes of "Hyperion" by Keats. The poem is centered around the ousting of the old Titans by the new Olympian gods and the shift in power dynamics creates much of the conflict in the narrative. "Hyperion" was also heavily influenced by Paradise Lost, an epic poem which famously depicts the fall of Satan from Heaven and Adam and Eve's expulsion from the Garden of Eden. Satan in Paradise Lost is driven by his need to be in power once more, like the Titans of "Hyperion." It is also important to note that the French Revolution heavily influenced Keats' generation and this real world shift in power and challenge to authority would have been on his mind while writing.
