Whenever you are breaking a larger value down into smaller pieces, you are dividing.

 

20÷(5/17)

 

Remember that whole numbers become fractions by writing them over 1.

 

(20/1)÷(5/17)

 

Dividing by a fraction is the same as multiplying by a reciprocal (Some teachers teach this as copy-dot-flip).

 

(20/1)•(17/5) = 340/5 = 68

 

There are 68 students.
