Change due.

Question

If a customers change due is something like $5.99, or anything that ends in .99, what do I give them?

Give them a $5 bill, 3 quarters ($.75), 2 dimes ($.20), and 4 pennies ($.04).

5 + .75 + .20 + .04 = $5.99

Here are a few options:

 

1. Ask them if they have an extra penny to give you.  That will make the change $6 even.
2. They could also give you an extra nickel, making the change $6.04.  Saves you from handing out a lot of change (4 cents vice 99 cents)
3. If it's your business, you can sacrifice the penny and give them $6 to save your change (don't do this if it's not your business)

 

Otherwise, just give them the $5.99 change they're due.
