Solves the second equation for y:

 

 y = 3x - 4

 

-8x + 5(3x-4) = -6

-8x + 15x - 20 = -6

 7x - 20 = -6

 

 7x = 14

 

x = 2

 

y = 3(2) - 4

   = 6 - 4
