Chapter 1 – Calpurnia’s Traits
In Chapter 1, Calpurnia is curious, observant, and independent-minded. She shows curiosity through her strong interest in nature and science, especially when she closely observes grasshoppers instead of focusing on traditionally “proper” activities for girls. She is observant because she pays close attention to details in the natural world around her. Calpurnia is also independent-minded, as she questions expectations placed on her and feels frustrated by the limits society sets for her.
Chapter 2 – Calpurnia’s Traits
In Chapter 2, Calpurnia continues to show that she is determined, intelligent, and open-minded. She demonstrates determination when she seeks out her grandfather and persists in asking questions about scientific ideas. Her intelligence is shown through her quick understanding of concepts and eagerness to learn. Calpurnia is open-minded because she is willing to explore new ways of thinking, especially when science challenges what she has been taught.
