Very interesting history questions...let me briefly say, there are those who refer to Moorish rule over Spain spanning the 800 years from 711 to 1492 but this isn't completely correct. The Berber-Hispanic Muslims inhabited two-thirds of the Spanish peninsula for 375 years, lost half of it and then held the other half of it for another 160 years and finally the kingdom of Granada for the remaining 244 years.

I think this refers to the Moors.  They conquered much of Spain in the Middle Ages, but were driven out later in the late 1400s, during the age of Queen Isabella and King Fernando.  But I do not think they ever ruled all of Spain. From my history courses, I recall they ruled only in southern Spain, until they were forced out.
