About Jon

Greetings, Thank you for considering me as your tutor.
Let me tell you a little bit about me. I possess a variety of career experiences, which has allowed me a diverse of level of knowledge, skills and expertise.
My primary career has been as a health care practitioner as an orthopedic surgical Physician Assistant, having been on staff at an distinguished medical organization in the Department of Orthopedics. In addition, I have worked in primary care and emergency medicine departments in rural and urban health care facilities, which included being part of the inaugural set up team for the Health Care for the Homeless project for my community, which was funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. I have served in the military, as a enlisted and commissioned personnel, in medical occupations. I have also served as an adjunct instructor in clinical studies at a physician assistant training program.
In college, I majored in math[Algebra, Calculus, Geometry, Trigonometry], and Chemistry, as well as pre-med courses.
After a successful and enjoyable career in medicine, I chose a sabbatical from medicine to acquire state substitute teacher certification in math and science, to teach middle school and high school students. The subjects I am certified to teach are Algebra, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Anatomy & Physiology, Geometry and Earth Science. I also teach American History and history of Native American tribes in the US. I also acquired state certification as an athletic coach. I have coached middle and high school girls and boys basketball, track, archery and golf.
Other experiences which I have are as an associate producer for a nationwide daily Native American radio talk program and producer/director for a live television talk program on public access focusing on Native American issues in our community.
I have also worked as a technical support advisor for Apple iOS and Mac OS hardware and software at a technical support center.
I've worked/taught/coached archery, having worked in archery retail. I am a nationally certified archery instructor through the U.S. National Archery Association, as well as a certified golf instructor through the U.S. Golf Instructors Association. I have coached Little League, community youth soccer leagues, co-ed youth flag football leagues and have been an adult troop leader for the Boy Scouts of America.
I am a member of a federally recognized Native American tribe in New Mexico. I am from the Pueblo of Laguna and Pueblo of Zuni. I have been a Fellow of the Kellogg National Fellowship Program and member of the National Association of Physician Assistants, fellow/member of the New Mexico Academy of Physician Assistants and NM High School Coaches Association.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Proficient in working with high school and middle school students who have demonstrated challenges and weaknesses with the concepts of Algebra. Emphasize basic fundamentals of Algebra, working to enhance and improve skills and comprehension of Algebra, enabling further competency with higher levels of secondary and college math.

Anatomy

College A&P and pre-med classes and experience with cadaver lab techniques. Career as health care practitioner as nationally certified orthopedic surgical physician assistant with expertise Anatomy and Physiology. Adjunct clinical instructor in physician assistant training program. Experience as high school health/A&P educator and tutor.

I am a math tutor and substitute teacher for Albuquerque Public Schools with a focus in Algebra, Geometry, and Pre-Algebra in middle and high schools.

Geometry

Macintosh

Worked 2 years as an Apple iOS and Mac OS Technical Support Advisor. Trained in troubleshooting Apple devices and software, pertaining to updates, power issues, downloading of apps and management of Apple user accounts. Acquainted with Mac OS troubleshooting issues, Apple applications functions and computer issues. Acquainted with screensharing capabilities/Bonjour and Recovery of Mac devices, and proficient with Mac applications.

Microsoft PowerPoint

I have also worked as technical support advisor for Apple, Mac computer support for all Mac OS applications, which include KeyNote, Macs equivalent to PowerPoint.
I am proficient with PowerPoint with: using the may animations and transitions for slides and text.
I have used animations when creating lessons for Chemistry, Algebra, Geometry, Biology, and History, which has include student interaction and engagement where students can participate with the lesson, much like a game show. I have used sound, music and video with some of my presentations.
Also, I have saved presentations on thumb drives, memory sticks, CDs, the cloud as well as a computer. I am also proficient with setting up presentations with with audio and video equipment.

Nursing

I am a physician assistant, with clinical and nursing experience. In addition, I have a history as a Navy Hospital Corpsman, being trained in nursing assistant and nursing care skills.
