Hi Maria from Houston, TX...hope you're having a great weekend.
To begin with, I have a question about your problem. What is the expression: (1)
if (1) is simply one times the expression 2 - 2y + 3 then begin with combining like terms:
2 - 2y + 3(1) = 7 Start with combining like terms.
2 + 3(1) - 2y = 7 Complete the operation if (1) is times 1
2 + 3 - 2y = 7 Next operation
5 - 2y = 7 Next, let's move the known values and
the unknown values to either side of
equal sign. Notice that the y value is
looking like a negative value which can
cause some confusion. So consider this
5 - 2y = 7 Try to keep the y value a positive value
+ 2y = + 2y Add the y value to each side
5 + 0 = 7 + 2y Rewrite the equation
5 = 7 + 2y Next move 7 to other side of = sign
- 7 - 7 Complete operation
5 - 7 = 2y Now its your turn to complete the rest.
