The term diffusion has different meanings in different settings. In general, it means the spreading of something. In chemistry and biology, for example, it means the movement/spreading of a substance from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. This is seen when you put a drop of dye in a glass of water. The color of the dye spreads or diffuses from the initial area of high amount, to the rest of the glass where the amount is low. This is diffusion.
