How to solve this quadratic equation with the quadratic formula?

I've been having trouble with this problem:

x2 + 2x = 8

So far this is what I got:

-2±√-28
-----------
      2

However I'm not too sure what to do next, help?

Meena, in this platform, you should parenthesize the entire numerator of the quadratic formula in order to guarantee the correct PEMDAS behavior; this is because, unlike paper or whiteboards, we do not have the horizontal division symbol that also acts as a grouping symbol for numerator & denominator.

ANY MATH -I can break it down to the basics for you!

I think you didn't do the first step (setting the quadratic equal to zero) before assigning you a,b,c to the quadratic formula & that is how you got -28 under the radical.
or
You made an arithmetic error.

Either way, I hope my explanation helps!
